Spetses

Either take the hydrofoil from the ports of Ermioni or Porto Heli or drive to the tiny port of Kosta and take a small boat or water taxi to cross over to Spetses. The Dapia harbour, with its pebble mosaics, shops and cafes is great for a spot of people watching, or you can head for one of the beaches for swimming and sunbathing. The island has two main towns, the new town that has all the shops, bars and tavernas and where the ferries all come and go from. Then, there is the Old Town. The Old Town has restaurants and bars and nightclubs.

There are many old captains houses here and the pace of life is slower than in the New Town. One of the most noticable things about Spetses is that there are very few cars around as they are not allowed, so there are a lot of motor scooters. A romantic way to get around is to take on of the horse drawn buggies that ferry people between the two towns. There is also a museum dedicated to the island’s heroine, Laskarina Bouboulina.
